I was going to work on the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! at my house, but my friend can’t bring his tractor until next weekend. Yay, procrastinating! That’s where I’m a Viking! So instead I went for a long mountain bike ride Sunday morning while my wife took the kids shopping for some new clothes.

Didn’t take any pictures on trail because... it looks like the woods. We did try out a new loop though, keeping in mind, none of these trails are actual mtb trails. The downhill was unexpectedly AMAZING, sections of logging road intermixed with singletrack, about 1,000 vertical feet in ~ 1.8 miles . You could go 20-25mph down the fast parts, which is totally unheard of on the trails we usually ride. The only problem was, did I mention it’s not a bike trail? So you’re going 20+ straight down this woods road, when you start to wonder, hmm, it’s getting thick up ahead , does the trail turn? When suddenly BAM it’s a 90 degree right or left turn. Hello, brakes!

semi-related, this is the “farm” where I parked to ride

We spent the night Saturday at the lake, then couldn’t leave yesterday because it was so beautiful out.

Saw these people tubing behind a beautiful wooden boat:

Then, this morning, we put my just-turned-7-year-old on the SCHOOL BUS for the first time, off to first grade! We took the truck to the bus stop (it’s at the end of our little dead-end road) with the dogs and everything. He was both nervous and excited, but I know he’ll be fine. It’s a big day for him!

Looks like it was a good one for you! I managed to hang a couple of shelves (one wasn’t level), get our house server up and running again, do some cleaning, hang out at the climbing gym with my daughter, then have an excellent evening playing cards with my kids and a couple of their friends. Who knew UNO could get so intense?!?

UNO gets intense and our kids are only (almost) 5 and 7! Maybe I’m a competitive card player.... maybe

We were playing with teenagers, so there weren’t any concerns about hurting anyone’s feelings. The kids were mostly polite, but there were no hesitations about dropping multiple draw 4 cards on the same player. :)

My wife handed me the win when a) she didn’t realize I had called Uno; and b) she threw a wild card and selected the color I needed to drop that last card. The look on her face when she realized what she had done was PRICELESS!!!!

My team participated in a barbecue competition at the professional level. Th ere were TV crews and everything . Ended up getting 4th in chicken and 7th in ribs out of 39 teams. We were super pumped.

Then went to a wedding and the wife and I drove the bride and groom away and to their hotel in the BMW M850i Convertible that I was sent for the week.

This was followed up by a day of recovery until I lft he house to go to dinner with the fam and then a freakin 11 pm hockey game.

My poor dogs probably think we abandoned them

i hit 25 mph or so going down a ski slope n the summer on my mtn bike. i then hit a gopher hole or something, then i hit the ground, rolled, got hit by my own bike and probably hit the ground a few more times before coming to a stop.

Oh man, last time we broke out Uno while camping it ended with all the kids (our two and niece and nephew - ages 10, 7, 7, 6) marching the game over to the garbage can and throwing it out ..

Friday night, drove two hours into Pennsylvania to see my all time favorite band, Slipknot. Once the show ended, hauled three hours to Chillicothe, Ohio to sleep for a few hours, then wake up and get to a RallyCross meet. Took 2nd in stock FWD by 1.6 seconds, and hitting one cone all day that pretty much cost me the title. Trekked three hours home and slept until Monday morning.

To be fair, there’s a section I ride fairly often that gets going pretty fast, but it’s short. It’s mostly a 45 -minute slog to the top, with a 20 minute ride down - clearly we go fast on the way down, but it doesn’t mean 20-25mph haha.

Hit up three estate sales, bought a silver ice bucket that has currently bested me in it’s clean up resulting in the order of a new dremel to finish the job appropriately . Binge watching The Good Place until we caught up with what’s on Netflix. Dinner with the wife’s boss Saturday chased by some unnecessary spending at Nordstrom. Then a Sunday in seclusion where I started watching Rust Bros Restoration on Netflix - generally a peaceful easy pre vacation weekend

There are actually a few s hows but these are the two that I know:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBQ_Pitmasters - This is the more popular of the two, bunch if real characters and its entertaining to watch .

http://bama-q.tv/ - This is the show that was there. A team that we’ve befriended is on it. Not as entertaining but cool none the less. They filmed us a good bit too.

Hah! That’s the scorched-earth approach. In our household, g ames are too valuable to be tossed. Even so, my wife refuses to play Risk with me after her one win (and many losses) and the kids refuse to play Clue with my wife because she has never lost. My wife picked up a new card game a few   months ago. I wasn’t paying attention when she said we were going to play a new game, but I knew we were in deep trouble once the cards were dealt to me and the kids. I’m guessing she didn’t actually read the description and only bought it because it was on sale and it had Shakespeare on the front. We managed to make it through one very embarrassing round. If any game was a candidate for the circle file, this was it.

Kinja'd!!!

For those who can’t see the image, the game was Bards Dispense Profanity. I still don’t know what my wife was thinking....

yea this was at Blue Hills in MA. pretty sure i got a concussion. everything was blurry and i couldn’ t get up. All the words coming out of my mouth were mush. it all came back to normal after a few minutes. probably should have gotten checked out but never went to the hospital. I also got a star pattern cut into my knee from the bike landing on me with the rear gears. highland is a different monster but at least those trails are professionally maintained

Was it a KCBS competition or are you in a different region? We’ve done one comp in May and didn’t rank as well as we did the year prior. It was then that I realized I prefer more flavor than what the judges are looking for.

I don’t dislike it, but I don’t LOVE it. I put it down and didn’t feel the need to rush back for the next episode. Kind of the same as comedians in cars getting coffee. I enjoy it and will watch it to the end, but I doubt it’ll make the top favs list.

I had a great day of thrift shopping with friends on Saturday, bought a bunch of shirts that I liked but my   ex would never have allowed. Also bought a Tommy Hilfiger suit for $28 so I can’t complain about that. Yesterday I got to do childcare which I love although I had a 2 hour work meeting which wasn’t as fun. Overall a great weekend.

And I really need to bring my bike to school, itd be great exercise for me.

800 mile round-trip for my cousin’s birthday. Nice to not have to deal with the Volvo’s bullshit. Solid 34 mpg doing 75-80 up & down I5 though the rain grooves & crosswinds made parts of it more exciting than I would have preferred.

I think I feel the same way - it’s okay overall and is car-centric programming, so I’ll continue to c heck it out, but it just seems so cookie-cutter like the rest of those types of shows.

exactly! They build something, it goes over budget, there are problems , he sells it and makes a profit. There’s a burnout.

Sounds great! My wife got me a new suit but it wasn’t $28. Maybe... $160? Still a pretty good deal, Banana Republic.

For me, the fact that I get exercise is almost secondary to how much fun it is. Running down a narrow trail on my bike requires my full attention and athletic capability. The adrenaline is addicting, so the climb up is just the price of admission. I do acknowledge that part of what makes me feel good afterwards is the exercise component. But I don’t crave the uphill bits.

Nice! I’m on board with the Volvo now, as the one above is now my dd after selling the bmw wagon. We’re down to 2.5 cars, counting my truck as only half a car because I can’t take the whole family in it, and it’s in storage from November through April or so.

Cheers on the new Volvo and the six years!

Delete the water and turn all of the green into brown/red and then your pictures could look like mine lol. I went to Joshua Tree National Park for the weekend. Got lucky with “only” 90s for the temperature (average jul/aug high temps are 110+). Will have to write it all up at some point!

Its weird to me to think about the “back to school” concept. I have since forgotten about that now being in the real world and not having children either. And especially being in Socal anyways, summer doesnt end. “Winter” kinda shows up around Dec/Jan but summer definitely continues well up until then.

From 2004 through 2014 I enjoyed September and October like never before. But before I even had kids (of school age), I started working at a school again. September is the best month here in New Hampshire, because the water is still pretty warm, there are fewer bugs around, the nights are cool (and they start before 9 pm), and the days are typically not over 80.
